This cozy cottage puts the cute in charcuterie! You guys all know how I love making special snack boards for different holidays. And at Christmastime, I like to get a bit creative and lay them out in holiday-themed designs, like a tree appetizer or a antipasto wreath

You know those gingerbread houses decorated with sweets? Well, this Charcuterie Holiday House Chalet is a savory version – covered with meats!

Now, I’m not gonna lie: Putting this together will take a little bit of time. But it’s a fun job, like an edible art project. First you measure out and bake the pizza-dough pieces to make the walls and roof of your cottage. Then you assemble the house just like a gingerbread house, using cream cheese for the glue.

Then comes the really fun part – the decorating. I gave my chalet salami shingles, white cheddar cheese siding, a stone-look front made from Asian sesame ginger salad topping, and a Wheat-Thin Dutch door. I dolled it up with cream cheese “icicles,” Parmesan “snow,” a wee rosemary wreath, and even a cream cheese snowman. And I filled in the rest of the board with my usual assortment of deli meats and cheeses.

Recipe Notes:

  • There are different ways to create this fun chalet but if you want to make this fully edible, I suggest using pizza dough. If you are creating this just for display, then you can use a gingerbread house kit in replace of the pizza dough.
  • You can even use breadsticks or pretzel rods if you want to go the log cabin route.
  • When building the chalet, I would use a cutting board or even a serving tray. This is the board I used from Walmart.
  • Using cream cheese for glue- I suggest using a cream cheese spread rather than the cream cheese block. The spread is slightly smoother and when you are adding this to the walls you want to be gentle instead of spreading it with force.
  • You can use any type of salami or even pepperoni if you choose.
  • When creating a winter wonderland on the board you can create pretty much anything. You can make a cobblestone sidewalk with Trail mix, add a cute little snowman, or even rosemary Christmas trees. There are endless possibilities and after creating this you will never look at food the same again. It’s so fun to create something from the food we would normally eat in a different way.

Building The House Structure

  1. Roll out the pizza dough and measure the walls with a ruler and cut it out with a pizza cutter. I used this template.
    • Side walls (2) 6” x 5”
    • The front and back of the house walls are size 5”x 7”-7” is the top peak of the house.
    • The roof (2 pieces) is 5”x 7”
  2. Bake “walls” as directed but bake for about 3-4 minutes over the time allowed. You will want to make sure they are strong enough to hold up. Allow walls (pizza dough) to cool completely before building the house.pizza crust pieces cooked and drying on rack
  3. Add cream cheese to a piping bag. Build the structure of the chalet on a cutting board, using the cream cheese as “glue”. You will do this just as you would a gingerbread house. crust walls put together with cream cheese to form a small house

Now It’s Time to Decorate!

  1. For the shingles take dry salami and cut it in half, then in half again so you will have 4 pieces. Repeat to make shingles.salami pieces added to top of roof crust
  2. Apply cream cheese to the roof in lines. Start at the bottom of the roof and add salami shingles. Repeat rows going all the way up, ensuring the top is completely covered.salami pieces added to top of roof crust
  3. Cut small thin slices of white cheddar cheese for the siding. Cover the sides of the house with cream cheese and apply the white cheddar cheese.adding cream cheese and sliced cheese to sides of house
  4. For the stone-looking front- Cover with cream cheese and add Asian Sesame Ginger Salad Topping to create a stone look. Any type of mixed cracker/nut mix will work well. adding salad topper and crackers to front of house
  5. Add two Wheat Thins to the door. Apply Rosemary for a wreath at the top of the house. adding cream cheese to the front of the house
  6. Add the remaining cream cheese from the piping bag to the sides to create icicles.
  7. Finely grated Parmesan cheese to the house for snow. shredded cheese added on top of cream cheese
  8. Decorate the remaining part of the cutting board however you choose. You can add more parmesan cheese to create snow, slice salami, and cheese to serve along with the Chalet. salami and cheese slices added to board
  9. You can even add cranberries and a cute little cream cheese snowman.Charcuterie Holiday House Chalet

  • 6 oz Parmesan Cheese
  • 10 oz Sharp White Cheddar Cheese
  • 1/2 cup Asian Sesame GingerSalad Topping Salad Topping
  • 8 sprigs Rosemary
  • 2 Wheat Thin Crackers
