Frozen Coronaritas – Family Fresh Meals

The ultimate cocktail for Cinco de Mayo.

Hola, everyone! Cinco de Mayo is almost here, and of course I’m cooking up a delicious Mexican feast to celebrate. But there was one thing I had trouble deciding: what did I want to drink with that?

2 Frozen Coronaritas

You see, there are two drinks that are perfect for a Cinco de Mayo get-together. You can go with the classic margarita, or you can just chill up a bunch of Corona beers. And I just couldn’t decide which one would go best with my meal.

So I did what I always do: I chose both. In fact, I combined the two to make Frozen Coronaritas. A Coronarita is simply a margarita with a Coronita (which is just a small bottle of Corona) upended into the glass. The pressure of the liquid in the glass stops up the mouth of the bottle, so the beer doesn’t drain out right away.Frozen Coronaritas – Family Fresh Meals

But as you sip the drink through a straw, beer flows in to replace the missing liquid. So it gradually shifts from margarita to Corona as you go. It’s the best of both drinks in one. (Plus, the cold slows down your sipping so you don’t go overboard with the alcohol too fast.)

Recipe Notes:

  • If you like your drink a touch sweeter, you can add an ounce or so of simple syrup. Simple syrup can be purchased in most grocery stores – it’s super easy to make yourself – here’s the recipe I use: https://thegirlinspired.com/how-to-make-simple-syrup/
  • We used Grand Marnier in this recipe, but triple sec will work great also.
  • Fresh squeezed lime juice is best!

  6. Pour the frozen margarita mixture into the glasses. Leave about 1⁄2” – 1” of space at the top of the glass so that the drink doesn’t overflow when putting the Coronita into the drink. With a swift movement, invert one Coronita into each drink. When the Coronita is up and down in the drink, it will not pour out.beer bottle placed upside down into drink
